Waymo Nears 500,000 Rides Per Week Across 10 U.S. Cities

Co-CEO Dmitri Dolgov confirms the milestone on a podcast with Stripe co-founder John Collison — and sets one million paid rides per week as the end-of-2026 target

At a Glance: Waymo is completing roughly 500,000 fully autonomous rides per week across 10 U.S. cities, driving more than 4 million autonomous miles per week with a fleet of approximately 3,000 vehicles. Target: 1 million paid rides per week by end of 2026.

Half a Million Rides, Every Week

Alphabet subsidiary Waymo is now completing roughly 500,000 fully autonomous rides per week across 10 U.S. cities, co-CEO Dmitri Dolgov said during a podcast conversation with Stripe co-founder John Collison published on March 24, 2026. The company's fleet of approximately 3,000 vehicles collectively drives more than 4 million fully autonomous miles each week — a figure that underscores just how far Waymo has scaled beyond the limited pilot programs that defined the robotaxi space as recently as 2023.

The milestone cements Waymo's position as the clear commercial leader in fully driverless transportation. No other autonomous vehicle operator has publicly reported comparable passenger volume at this scale without a safety driver present in the vehicle.

Target: One Million Rides Per Week by Year's End

Dolgov said Waymo is pushing toward an ambitious target of exceeding one million paid rides per week by the end of 2026 — roughly doubling current throughput within the calendar year. Achieving that figure would require either significant fleet expansion, geographic growth beyond the current 10-city footprint, or both. Waymo has previously indicated it is actively expanding into new markets and increasing vehicle density in existing ones.

The 4-million-miles-per-week figure is also significant for safety benchmarking. Autonomous vehicle companies measure safety performance in incidents per million miles driven; higher mileage provides statistically stronger evidence of system reliability across diverse road conditions, weather, and edge cases. At 4 million miles per week, Waymo accumulates in a single week what would take a human driver decades to log.
