What Is Red Bull Dance Your Style
Red Bull Dance Your Style is a global freestyle dance competition where dancers from any style, hip-hop, popping, locking, house, waacking, krump, and more, battle 1-on-1 to music they have never heard before. The defining twist: there is no judge panel. After each battle, the entire audience votes by pointing at their chosen dancer, and the majority wins.
The format has been running since 2018 and now operates in 30+ countries. City qualifiers feed into national finals, which feed into the World Final. The crowd-vote mechanic makes Dance Your Style uniquely unpredictable, rewarding dancers who connect with the audience over those who rely on technical difficulty alone.
NYC Battle | April 11, 2026
The New York City edition on April 11, 2026 is one of the premier U.S. city qualifiers. NYC is the birthplace of hip-hop and has one of the deepest freestyle dance scenes in the world, making this cypher one of the most competitive on the U.S. calendar. The event typically draws 16 invited dancers plus open qualifier spots.
Music is selected by a live DJ who plays tracks spanning decades and genres, from funk and soul to modern pop and Afrobeats. Dancers hear each song for the first time during their battle, testing adaptability and musicality as much as raw technique.
How the Crowd Vote Works
After each 1-on-1 round, the MC asks the audience to choose. Spectators physically point toward the dancer they want to see advance. Red Bull staff count the visible majority, and the winner moves on immediately. There are no scores, no deliberation, and no appeals. The system is deliberately blunt: if the crowd likes you more, you win. This has produced upsets where technically superior dancers lose to performers with better stage presence and audience connection.
