Claude for Microsoft Apps | Excel, Word, PowerPoint GA

Anthropic confirmed on May 7, 2026 that Claude for Excel, PowerPoint, and Word are now generally available to Microsoft 365 users. The three-app GA launch ends a multi-month integration period that began with a limited enterprise preview in late 2025.

Outlook, the fourth app in the rollout, moves to public beta on the same date. All Microsoft 365 subscribers can opt in to the Outlook beta immediately. General availability for Outlook is expected within weeks, consistent with Anthropic's standard beta-to-GA timeline.

The standout feature confirmed by Anthropic is cross-app context persistence. As Claude moves between Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook, it retains the full history of your conversation. A data model built in Excel, a presentation drafted in PowerPoint, a memo written in Word, and a follow-up email in Outlook can all draw on the same thread without the user re-explaining anything.

This context portability is the primary differentiator from Microsoft's own Copilot assistant, which operates largely within individual app sessions. Claude's cross-app memory mirrors the behavior Anthropic has established in its standalone web and API products. For Word, Claude handles drafting, summarizing long documents, and rewriting passages in a different tone. In Excel, it generates formulas, interprets data, and builds pivot table logic from natural language prompts. PowerPoint users get slide drafting, speaker notes generation, and layout suggestions. Outlook's beta adds email drafting and thread summarization.
